RAW DENIM

Our jeans are made from end-of-line raw denim that would otherwise go to landfill. Raw denim is denim in its purest form, it hasn’t gone through any pre-washing or shrinking processes (making it even better for the environment). Raw denim can feel stiff at first but loosens up as it is broken in. So if your new purchase feels a bit rigid on the first wear don't worry.

Deadstock

Most of the denim that we use is deadstock. Because of this each roll of fabric that we use can vary slightly in shade and texture. We think this makes each pair extra special. Hardware such as buttons & zips can also vary in shade & colour.

WASHING & DRYING

Raw denim should not be washed often at all. Unless you need to set the dye, we recommend wearing your jeans several times before the first wash. This gives the denim time to soften and mould to your body.

Deal with any small marks or stains by spot cleaning them. If they need a refresh, hang them outside to air out.

When it does come to washing them: turn jeans inside out and hand wash your denim purchase in cold water to minimise any shrinking and fading. Shrinking is a normal occurrence when washing denim because cotton naturally shrinks when exposed to water. Raw denim, which has not been pre-shrunk, is therefore more prone to shrinking with it's first wash.

If you choose to machine wash your purchase rather than follow our hand wash only care instructions then please note that this is at your own risk. If you do choose to machine wash choose a cold and delicate cycle and turn the garment inside out to prevent fading. Please remember that raw denim has not been pre-shrunk so washing in higher temperatures or in the machine will cause the denim to shrink more than usual, particularly in length.

Air dry - never use a tumble dryer unless your intention is to shrink your purchase! Tumble drying can severely shrink and weaken the fabric of any clothing.

If ironing, turn inside out and use a low heat.

DYE

Raw dyed denim, particularly dark wash denim, can bleed dye with its first wash or contact with moisture. To set the dye we recommend soaking on it's own in cold water, before it's first wear. For our very dark and black denims avoid making contact with light coloured surfaces & clothing before washing. To prevent denim from fading we recommend washing inside out.

If you are concerned about dye transfer or want to prevent the colour from fading, you can set the dye in raw denim by soaking in a mixture of cold water, salt and vinegar. After soaking for about an hour, rinse with cold water (until the vinegar smell is gone) and hang dry.
